Seesmic, Twitter, WebApp overkill?

Seesmic – the video twitter? Twitter – the text seesmic?

I’ve got to agree with VentureBeat – Twitter and Seesmic are quirky web applications, with increasing adoptions.
I’ve heard of Seesmic before – and I’ve clicked around a bit – and am convinced that video will kill the internet star. Or maybe Seesmic will kill that ideal, and could make webcams and the personal web identity “the next hot thing.”

I’m not sold – the whole “video response” thing kind of creeps me out (despite seeing more and more people do it). It kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? Twitter let’s us send a line or two to people (or no one in particular). We send links. Seesmic, you… talk. You express yourself. It’s twitter with emotion. As illustrated by Robert Scoble in response to a Techcrunch article – okay – so Scoble’s job is a freaking video blogger for Fast Company, and I don’t think they could’ve picked a better person for it.

So – video is the future? Will WebCams make a come back – or have they ever really left?
